MACC GREYHOUNDS DEFEAT MINERAL AREA 82–78 SATURDAY
Will Host West Plains on Tuesday in Region 16 Tournament
The Moberly Area Community College men's basketball team ended its regular season with an 82–78 victory over Mineral Area College on Saturday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Moberly surged late to grab a 43–32 halftime lead and never surrendered it in a closely contested matchup.
Sophomore guard Lavonta Ivery led the Hounds in scoring with 19 points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Shaunassey Hatchett added 18 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore post Josh Lowe contributed 18 points. Freshman guard Caleb Estes chipped in 12 points.
"Tremendous end-of-regular-season win," said Coach Patrick Smith. "I thought our players were consistent in competing and battling from start to finish to get a well-earned victory. Now it's on to Region 16 Tournament time and playing a very talented Missouri State–West Plains squad who can really score. Our players are very excited about starting the postseason journey and feel we are playing at a very good level right now, with the need to continually defend better."
Moberly will host Missouri State–West Plains on Tuesday, March 3, with tipoff at 7 p.m. in a Region 16 quarterfinal contest. The Greyhounds finished the season at 24–6 overall with a 7–5 region record.
