MACC Greyhounds Defeat Missouri State West Plains, 102–80
Will host Link Year Academy on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Moberly Area Community College men's basketball team defeated Missouri State West Plains 102–80 on the road Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 53–38 halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half.
MACC was led in scoring by sophomore forward Josh Lowe, who recorded a career-high 25 points and added 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Caleb Estes also scored 25 points and dished out five assists. Sophomore guard Lavonta Ivery contributed 14 points and four assists, while freshman forward Shaunnassey Hatchett chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.
"A very good team win on the road in a game we needed to get," said head coach Patrick Smith. "Coming off an overtime loss and a one-point loss, we needed to reestablish our identity and culture—who we are and what we want to be as a team. We are currently 17–4, with our four losses by a total of nine points. The question is what we are going to do, as a coaching staff and players, to be the team that improves the most over the last quarter of the season.
"There are so many things we can do to get better, and I thought our offensive flow tonight was very good, which is one of our targeted improvement areas. We've had a lot of practice time over the last two weeks, and I thought our players did a very good job translating that work into game performance tonight."
Moberly will play Link Year Academy on Saturday, January 31, at 3:00 p.m. at Fitzsimmons-John Arena, replacing Olney Central Community College on the schedule. The Greyhounds currently stand at 17–4 overall and 2–3 in Region 16 play.
MACC will resume Region 16 action on Monday, February 2, when they host Three Rivers in a Women's/Men's doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m.
