MACC GREYHOUNDS WIN BOTH GAMES IN THANKSGIVING CLASSIC

#18 Ranked Moberly Improves to 9-1

The Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball Team won both games in their November 28–29 Thanksgiving Classic. The Greyhounds defeated Southwestern Illinois Community College 76–69 on Friday evening and followed up with a 62–57 victory over Highland CC (IL) in Saturday's finale.

Against SWIC, Moberly trailed for much of the first 30 minutes before taking the lead and securing the win. The Greyhounds were led in scoring by 6'2" sophomore guard Lavonte Ivery with 26 points. Josh Lowe and Jayden Banks added 14 points each, while Caleb Estes contributed 11.

Moberly held a 37–32 halftime lead against district opponent Highland and went on to earn a hard-fought 62–57 victory. Ivery once again paced the Greyhounds with 22 points. Lowe added 15 points and 8 rebounds, including three made treys, and freshman forward Shaunassey Hatchett posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

"Two very tough, good wins over two very good teams—we had to beat each for the second time," said Coach Patrick Smith. "I was very proud of our players' toughness and mindset in securing the two victories. I thought we did some things well, especially on the offensive boards and in forcing turnovers, but we must continue improving our overall play and consistency to reach a higher level. We have a very challenging December schedule, and we must eliminate systematic breakdowns that are limiting our development. I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead and am obsessed with improvement."

The #18 nationally ranked Moberly Greyhounds return to action on the road at Olney Central CC (IL) on Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by the Illinois–Missouri Shootout on Saturday at St. Louis CC (Forest Park), where they will face John A. Logan at 5 p.m. The Greyhounds enter the week with a 9–1 record and a four-game winning streak.
