MACC GREYHOUNDS WINNING STREAK AT FIVE GAMES
Moberly sweeps games in Thanksgiving Classic
The Moberly Greyhounds Men's Basketball Team has won 5 straight games after suffering a 79-69 loss to Dodge City in the State Fair Classic on November 15. In their second game of the Classic, the Greyhounds defeated Lewis and Clark 92-62 behind 16 points by sophomore guard KJ Vasser, 15 points each by Thomas Diew and DeJuan Bates along with 13 points each by Ade Popoola and Latrell Kyles.
Moberly then went on road to nationally ranked Vincennes University and after jumping out to a 22-3 lead, ended up winning the contest 63-51 behind 22 points by Ade Popoola(5-7 from 3 point range) along with 10 rebounds and Vasser added 13 points Moberly then went on the road again and defeated Southwestern Illinois 70-53 on November 26 and was lead in scoring by Sophomore wing Latrell Kyles with 25 points(6-7 on 3 pointers) and 10 rebounds while Bates and Vasser scored 13 points each.
In the recent MACC Thanksgiving Classic, MACC defeated Wabash Valley 68-60 in their Friday contest behind 27 points by Vasser(4-6 from behind the arc) with Popoola adding 14 points and 8 rebounds. In the Classic finale, Moberly overcame a half time deficit to defeat Marshalltown 81-61 with Ade Popoola scoring 26 points along with 17 deflections,, 10 steals and 8 rebounds with Bates adding 18 points along with Vasser contributing 13 points.
"We've had a very difficult early season schedule as we usually do," said Coach Patrick Smith, "However, very pleased with our improvement as we have improved substantially, especially defensively. With that said, our schedule continues to be very tough but we are excited for the challenges that await and the opportunities that are present. We must keep seeking a level of mentality, effort and execution that will allow us to continue to improve and keep progressing."
Moberly currently stands 7-3 on the season and returns to action this Sunday at the St. Louis CC shootout(Forest Park campus) against John A. Logan CC at 5 pm.
