Defeat Coffeyville with loss against Link Year
The Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball Team opened their season with a split of their two games in the Orscheln Industries Classic on November 1-2, 2024. Moberly opened their season with a hard fought 82-78 victory over NJCAA power Coffeyville Community College but were defeated on Saturday evening by Link Year Academy 73-85. Against Coffeyville, Moberly scored the last four points of the game to win the closely contested game. Moberly was lead in scoring by sophomore PG KJ Vasser with 28 points(7-11 from 3 point range), 6'5" Sophomore wing Ade Poppoola added 18 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore wing Latrell Kyles added 16 points. In the Classic finale vs. Link Year, Moberly faltered in the second half and could not answer Link Year's spurts the second half in a 73-85 loss.
"Up and down weekend with a tremendous win Friday night and a very tough loss on Saturday, " said Greyhounds Coach Patrick Smith, "Really proud of our guys for how they competed in finding a way to get it done against a very good Coffeyville team. Link Year is very talented and just didn't think we played well enough with enough substance to be in position to win the contest. With that said, early season games are about learning and improving, knowing how you have to play and compete to be the best team you can be. The process continues for us and we are excited about hosting and playing in the Midwest JUCO Challenge this weekend."
Moberly will host the 10 team Midwest JUCO Classic this weekend on November 8-9 with five games each day starting at 11 am on Friday. Moberly will play against Southwestern Illinois Jr. College on Friday at 7 pm and then host Triton College at 6 pm on Saturday in the classic finale.
