The Moberly Area Community College Women’s Basketball Team captured the Region XVI Championship on Saturday, February 29th, defeating the #21 nationally ranked Three Rivers Community College 83-70 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Moberly dominated the game from start to finish, holding a 30-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Greyhounds held a 45-33 lead at half and extended the lead to 24 points in the third quarter. The 13 point final deficit was as close as the Raiders would get.

Freshman DeAnna Wilson led all scorers with 20 points and also added 10 rebounds, marking her 16th double-double of the season. Freshmen B’Aunce Carter added 14 points and 8 rebounds while freshmen Bi’Anna Pettis and Bryce Dowell added 10 points and 9 points, respectively.

The Lady Greyhounds defense forced Three Rivers into 24 turnovers and held the Raiders, who are ranked #3 nationally in points per game, 19 points under their average.

“I’m so proud of how this team stepped up and seized the moment. They were fearless from start to finish and competed their hearts out. We’ve taken pride in our defense all season long and today, it won us a championship,” said Coach Hana Haden.

The championship game moved Moberly to 28-4 and marked the 11th straight win for the Greyhounds who were ranked #25 in the most recent NJCAA poll. Moberly will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa to take on Iowa Western Community College for the District Title. The winner will receive a bid to the NJCAA Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.
