The Moberly Area Community College women’s basketball team moves to 11-3 on the season after going 2-1 at the second and final Region XVI Showcase in Poplar Bluff over the weekend.

Friday, December 6th MACC met with Three Rivers for the first time since the Region XVI Championship game last March. The Lady Greyhounds controlled the first half with stifling defense and hot shooting. The teams went into halftime with a score of 42-23 with the advantage to Moberly. The Lady Raiders of Three Rivers went on a run of their own in the second half and cut the score within 8 points. They Lady Greyhounds held on to win the game by a score of 72-63. Sophomore Chatori Tyler led all scorers with 18 points. Freshman DeAnna Wilson added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Bryce Dowell contributed 16 points and freshman Kori Tomlin had 9 points and 8 assists.

Despite pulling down 23 offensive rebounds and taking 35 more shots than their opponent, MACC was defeated by Crowder on Saturday by a score of 60-53. Poor shooting in the second half cost the Greyhounds after taking an 11 point lead into halftime. They were held to just 14 points in the second half with only 5 points in the 4th quarter. MACC held onto a slim lead until the final minute of the game when Crowder pulled ahead for the first time at the free throw line.

Sunday, December 8th they Lady Greyhounds bounced back with a 72-55 win over Jefferson College. It was a balanced scoring effort with sophomore Kaysie Newson leading the way with 15 points, Chatori Tyler and DeAnna Wilson both adding 13 points apiece, and red shirt freshman Darryn Zeigler chipping in 12 points. The Lady Greyhounds shot 48% from the floor at 50% from the 3point line.

“We still have some major strides to make as a team, but we saw glimpses of some very good basketball this weekend. We have some players that are beginning to find themselves and understand their roles. The film from this weekend will be very helpful to us. I am proud of the effort we showed playing three games back to back, and especially the way we bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday.”

The Lady Greyhounds will compete in their final game before the holiday break this Sunday in the St. Louis Community College shootout. MACC will take on Kaskaskia Community College at 3:00pm. The game will be held on the Forrest Park Campus of STLCC.
