wiggins signsThe Moberly Area Community College women’s basketball team has now had five members of its sophomore class sign to play at the NCAA Division I level next season, as Angelica Wiggins officially signed her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of the Incarnate Word on Tuesday afternoon. Wiggins will be joining Lady Greyhound teammates Alexis and Lunden Henry, who committed to UIW last week.

Wiggins was a first team All-Region and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference selection this past season, as well as a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-American, as she averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. She led MACC in both assists (118) and three point field goals made (57) during her sophomore campaign, while starting in all 32 contests she played.

The 5’9” guard, who is originally from Toronto, Canada, scored in double figures in 22 games and led the team in scoring eight times, including five games with 21 or more points this past season. She also led the team in assists in 10 games and recorded the only double-double of her career with a 13 point, 10 rebound, seven assist performance as the Lady Greyhounds opened region play with an 81-49 victory over Three Rivers on January 12th. She finished her two-year career at MACC with 640 points and 87 three point field goals.

“It’s pretty incredible to think that Angelica came into our program as a walk-on, after averaging 3.5 points per game during her senior season in Minnesota and then sat out a year,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “I’m really proud of her for putting herself in this position and for earning this kind of opportunity, and I’m excited to see how she continues to develop over the next two years. She’s one of the best pure athletes that I have ever had the privilege to coach and when you combine that with her ability to shoot the ball she is extremely tough to defend.”

The remaining sophomore members of the 2017-2018 Lady Greyhounds squad are expected to make their decisions concerning their future schools over the next few weeks. “They passed a rule, not too long ago, that the period from May 7th until May 13th was going to be a dead period as far as recruiting is concerned for NCAA schools,” said Killinger. “We had some kids that would have benefitted from being able to take a visit at some point this week, but that wasn’t possible and with final exams next week they are going to have to wait until after graduation to take those. It has slowed the process down a little bit, but in the end I am confident that all of our sophomores will be in a good situation for themselves next season.”
