Moberly Area Community College sophomore center Anisha George continued to add to her accolades as she was named an NJCAA second team All-American this week. George was previously named honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association after being selected as the Player of the Year for both NJCAA Region 16 and the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference.

George becomes the third Lady Greyhound player to be recognized by the NJCAA in the past five seasons, joining Alexis Newbolt, who was named as an NJCAA third team All-American following the 2014 season and Autumn Jones, who was an honorable mention NJCAA All-American in 2016. Newbolt would go on to play at Indiana State University, while Jones has one year remaining at the University at Buffalo.

“Anisha has that rare combination of size and athleticism,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “She garnered a lot of attention from opposing defenses, which really opened up the offense for everyone on our team. The time she spent playing with the Virgin Islands National Team, as well as at the NJCAA All-Star Weekend, gave her a ton of confidence coming into this season and I’m really proud of her for making the adjustments she needed to in order to excel following her freshman season.”

George led MACC in several statistical categories, including scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, and field goal percentage. She was one of only two players who started in all 33 games for MACC, while reaching double figures in scoring 30 times, scoring 20 or more points seven times, and leading MACC in scoring in 15 games. She also led the Lady Greyhounds in rebounding in 20 games, as she recorded 13 double-doubles on the season. George set a new school record for single season field goal percentage as she connected on 214 of 321 field goal attempts, good for 66.7%, eclipsing the previous mark set by Kathy Schulz during the 1983 season.
