The Moberly Area CC Women’s Basketball Team was defeated by Johnson County Community College at John Wood Community College on Friday, November 30. The Lady Greyhounds struggled to get into a rhythm offensively in the first half, getting down 21-5 at one point in the second quarter. They went into halftime with a 14 point deficit.
MACC scored 27 points in the third quarter to take a one point advantage going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter resulted in both teams trading baskets. Johnson County secured some key offensive rebounds that were converted into points at the end of the game to gain a four point lead with just under a minute to go. Freshman Kaysie Newson hit a three point field goal out of a time out to cut the lead to one point. MACC had to foul and JCCC made their free throws to secure the three point win.
“I’m proud of the heart that we showed come back in this game after such a slow start offensively in the first half. Our defense is doing a nice job of limiting other teams right now, but our offense, especially in the first half, has been a weakness,” said Coach Hana Haden. “We have to come out with a better sense of urgency; not just wait until our backs are against the wall. And we have to continue to learn to be disciplined with our shot selection. Johnson County is a very solid team and I thought we did a nice job defending them. We will continue to work on our issues on the offensive end.”
