Bio
Matt Bauer is the inaugural head coach of Greyhound Softball, now entering his fourth year leading the program. Under his guidance, Greyhound Softball has steadily grown stronger each season. Bauer laid the foundation for the program starting in the 2021-2022 year by focusing on recruiting and preparing for the team's debut in the 2023 season.
The 2023 season marked a successful start, with the team finishing third in Region 16 and making an immediate impact. Notable achievements included two All-Region 16 players, one All-Conference player, five All-Academic players, and a team GPA of 3.5.
In just their second season in 2024, the Greyhounds made an even greater leap, reaching the Region 16 Championship game before falling to St. Louis Community College, earning second place in the region. This rapid success reflects the dedication of both the players and Bauer's coaching staff. The 2024 squad boasted one NFCA All-Region player, three All-Region 16 players, two All-Conference players, five All-Academic players, and a remarkable team GPA of 3.57. The Greyhounds have quickly established themselves as a rising force in Region 16 and the Midwest.
Coach Bauer came to Moberly Area Community College from Frazee, Minnesota, bringing over 13 years of softball coaching experience at various levels. During his five years as head coach for Frazee High School's Hornet Softball team, he led the program to significant achievements, including three consecutive Gold Academic Team honors, tying the school record for wins, and securing back-to-back third-place finishes in the section along with a second-place finish in the conference. Concurrently, he coached a club/travel team in Frazee for 11 years, leading them to multiple tournament championships and back-to-back state runner-up finishes.
Before returning to his hometown of Frazee, Bauer coached in Zimmerman, Minnesota, where he reignited his passion for coaching after a brief hiatus from the profession.
Coach Bauer earned his Master of Arts in Sport Management from Concordia University St. Paul in June 2021 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Education from North Dakota State University, completed in December 1996.
He and his wife, Joyce, reside in Moberly, where Joyce works as a Special Education teacher at South Park Elementary. They have three daughters and one son-in-law: Desiree and Cailyr, Savanna, and Alexis. Their household also includes their dog, Zoey, and cat, Tigerlilly. Outside of coaching, Bauer enjoys nature, exercise, and traveling with Joyce. In the summer months, when not recruiting, the couple often takes long road trips on their Harley.
