MOBERLY GREYHOUNDS DEFEAT HIGHLAND TO WIN MIDWEST DISTRICT TITLE

Qualify for Nationals in Hutchinson March 20-25

The Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball Team defeated Highland CC(IL.) 66-52 on the road Saturday evening to win the Midwest District Championship.  MACC opened up a 32-20 lead at the half and after seeing the margin trimmed to 47-44 with 8 minutes remaining, the Greyhounds went on a 19-8 spurt to seal the victory behind 8 points by guard Xavier Sykes.  PG Jaheim Tanksley lead MACC in scoring with 20 points along with 4 assists and rebounds each, 6'7" forward Tre'von Spillers had 15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots while Sykes added 11 points on 4-5 FG shooting.

Highland, the NJCAA Region 4 Champion, ended their season 24-10.

With the victory, Moberly automatically qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas March 20-25. Moberly received the #4 seed and will receive a first round bye and play the winner of the Dodge City(KS.) vs. Meridian(MS.) contest on Wednesday at Noon.  Moberly improved to 30-3 on the season with their 20th consecutive victory while winning their fourth championship of the season and ranked #4 in the final NJCAA final regular season poll.
