MACC GREYHOUNDS WIN REGION 16 CHAMPIONSHIP
Defeat Mineral Area to advance to District Finals
The Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball Team defeated Mineral Area 66-62 to win the NJCAA Region 16 Championship on Saturday evening at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Moberly trailed 33-36 at the half and after Mineral came back to tie the game at 60 all, Jaheim Tanksley hit a long three to give the Greyhounds a 63-60 lead they would not relinquish. Tanksley lead Moberly with 25 points(4-7 from three point range), Teddy Washington added 15 points and 5 assists while Tre'von Spillers scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Mineral Area finished the season with a 22-9 record with 4 of the losses to MACC.
In the semi-finals vs. State Fair, Moberly jumped out to a 12-0 lead and was never threatened, leading 42-24 at the half on the way to a 77-52 victory on Friday evening. Washington lead Moberly in scoring with 21 points(5-8 from 3 point range), Spiller added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots while Brandon Hall contributed 11 points.
Moberly currently stands 29-3 on the season with their 19th consecutive victory, ranked #4 nationally in the latest NJCAA poll and finished 14-0 in Region play. This was the 4th NJCAA Region 16 Tournament Championship in the last 5 seasons for the Greyhound program.
Moberly now advances to the NJCAA Midwest District Championship as they will play Highland College in Freeport, Illinois on Saturday, March 11 at 7 pm. The winner of that contest automatically qualifies for the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
