Defeat William Penn JV’s and Link Year in Orscheln Classic.
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team opened their season with two victories in their Orscheln Classic. On Friday evening, the Greyhounds defeated William Penn JV’s 116-54 and then came back Saturday to win over Link Year Academy 95-65. Against William Penn, Moberly jumped out to a 28-2 lead and never looked back in coasting to the victory. Returning starters Tyren Moore and Sincere Parker lead the scoring parade with 24 points and 20 points respectively while transfers Dorian Staples and Michael Thomas added 13 points each.
Moberly lead Link Year by 43-35 at the half and then blew the game open the second stanza. St. Louis U. commit Sincere Parker lead Moberly Area CC in scoring with 19 points while 6’10” post transfer Jimmy Bell scored 14 points with 16 rebounds. Georgia Southern commit Tyren Moore scored 14 points, the 6’8” Staples added 14 points and 7 rebounds, Thomas contributed 13 points while 6’6” forward Makalani Kafele scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds.
“All in all, a good opening weekend,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “I thought we did some things well but wasn’t consistent enough in all areas, too many mental mistakes. Those things are going to occur early in the season but our schedule gets very tough really quick and we must be improving rapidly to meet those challenges.”
Moberly returns to action on Tuesday evening, November 9th as they host John Wood College at 7 pm.
