8th ranked Greyhounds stay undefeated at 5-0
The 8th ranked Moberly Greyhounds defeated Southeastern Iowa 65-58 at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. After falling behind early 16-5 to the visiting Blackhawks, the Greyhounds stormed back to a 32-21 halftime lead behind 4 three pointers by sophomore guard Randy Miller.
After extending the lead to 37-23, Moberly saw Southeastern close to a three point gap with 12 minutes remaining. The Greyhounds went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead. Miller led the Greyhounds in scoring with 20 points, while freshman guard Billy Thomas added 14 points. Patrick Jackson led Southeastern in scoring with a game high 25 points while Victor Nwagbaraocha added 10 points.
The Greyhounds improved to 5-0 with the victory while Southeastern Iowa dropped to 3-1 for the season. “I thought this was an excellent early season game,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Two teams who really defended well, made offensive basketball somewhat ugly. Southeastern really got after us, jumped on us early, so I was real pleased how we stayed the course and handled the ups and downs of the game. With that said, we are a work in progress and must focus this week on striving to reach the next level. Will Rucker and Tyrone Alston were huge for us with their contributions. I always say we need 8 to 9 players we consider as starters.”
The game was sponsored by John Cochran and Valentine Insurance Agency. The Hounds will return to action this Friday in the State Fair Classic, taking on Link Year Prep at 3:00 pm.
