#7 MACC has 10 game win streak snapped
On the same day they rose to #7 in the NJCAA National Rankings, the Moberly Area CC Men’s Basketball Team went to West Burlington, Iowa and lost 76-79 to Southeastern Iowa CC. After a back and forth first half, Moberly was able to grab a 40-37 halftime lead. However, Southeastern Iowa was able to come back and grab a 63-55 lead with nine minutes remaining. Moberly came back and grabbed a 73-71 lead with a little over 2 minutes remaining but a Dixon-Conover three pointer put the Blackhawks up 76-73. The Greyhounds missed a last second three pointer in an attempt to tie the game at the buzzer. Alonzo Verge lead Moberly in scoring with 24 points while fellow guard Billy Thomas added 10 points. Nikolic lead Southeastern Iowa in scoring with 20 points and 15 rebounds, Kourtney Ware had 14 points, Patrick Jackson had 12 points and Johnson added 11.
“We weren’t on top of our game on the road last night,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “I thought our offensive flow was not very good, we gave up too many transition baskets along with dribble drives, and then at times second chance points off the board. However, I give Coach Lorenzo Watkins and SE Iowa a lot of credit, they guarded us really well and did a great job of attacking on offense. Even though it’s late in the season, it’s back to the drawing board as we have to make sure our effort, system and playing rotation is where we need it to be. It really hurts to lose obviously, but it’s really bad if you don’t learn something from it.”
Moberly had their 10 game winning streak snapped in dropping to 25-4 on the season while Southeastern Iowa improves to 22-8. Moberly travels to West Plains on Saturday to conclude their regular season.
