#8 ranked MACC improves to 4 – 0
The eighth-ranked Moberly Men’s Greyhounds survived a tough John Wood squad to win 83 – 78, Tuesday evening at the Fitzsimmons – John Arena. After jumping to an early 33 – 18 lead, and leading 46 – 38 at the half, Moberly saw John Wood come out hot to start the second half and take a 57 – 52 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
Moberly fought back to take a 76 – 73 edge on a three pointer by Dallas Morgan and never trailed again in pulling out the close win. Alonzo Verge, Jr. led the Greyhounds in scoring, pumping in 25 points and 8 assists, while Morgan had 13 points. John Wood was led in scoring by Whiteman with 15 points, Fadika with 12 points and Schlotzhauer scored 11 points.
Moberly improved to 4 – 0 on the season while John Wood dropped to 1 – 1. “We let our foot off the throttle and John Wood seized the momentum,” said Moberly Coach Patrick Smith. “They are so good running their offense, with multiple shooters and are well coached. We got stagnant offensively and made too many mistakes defensively. However, it was the first game we were really challenged in, and I’m happy with how we responded to adversity.”
The Greyhounds will return to action this Saturday, November 11 as they host Southeastern Community College at 7:30 pm.
