8th straight victory improves Hounds to 18-4
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team defeated previously undefeated and #3 nationally ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals 85-74 on Saturday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Moberly overcame an early deficit to claim a 48-44 halftime lead behind three made treys by guard Tyrek Chambers. The Greyhounds eventually stretched the lead to 19 points and it never got below nine points for the remainder of the game. Eddie Creal lead Moberly in scoring with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Soph. post Dusan Mahorcic had 14 points and 10 rebounds with Chambers scoring 14 points as well and Cortez Mosely contributing 11 points. Kevin Legardy lead Mineral in scoring with 16 points, Angelo Stuart added 13 points and Gabe O’Neal scored 12 points.
“Just a tremendous team win over a very high quality opponent in Mineral Area,” said Coach Pat Smith, “Thought we really guarded a very skilled offensive team extremely well and was able to gain control of the game. We’ve really been playing well and need to keep up the progress and momentum we’ve established. Great to have so many of the ex Greyhounds back for the Reunion game as that always just add an extra element to the game atmosphere. Now we have to start getting ready for the next step starting with continuing to improve what we do.”
Moberly improved to 18-4 overall with their 8th consecutive victory along with being 5-0 in the MCCAC and 3-0 in Region 16. Mineral Area dropped to 19-1 with their first loss and 2-1 in Region play. Moberly returns to action this Saturday as they travel to Three Rivers for a 7:00 pm tip off.
