Greyhounds defeat SW Tennessee, Henry Ford
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball team got their season off to a successful start by winning two in their own Orscheln Classic on Friday and Saturday. In their opening game the Greyhounds defeated Henry Ford(Mich.) CC 101-64. After leading 52-37 at the half, Moberly jumped out to an early spurt to start the second half and eventually opened up a 35 point lead in their opener. Pre Season first Team All American Alonzo Verge, Jr. lead MACC in scoring with 28 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds while freshman guard Raheim Sullivan scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds. 6’5” sophomore forward Sean Miller-Moore scored 12 points to round out the double figure scoring. Andre Johnson lead Henry Ford in scoring with 9 points.
In the classic finale Saturday, Moberly once again gained a 54-39 halftime lead over Southwest Tennessee CC, who had defeated Link Year Prep 83-79 in their classic opener. Moberly eventually stretched the lead to 28 points before coasting to a 106-83 victory. Sean Miller-Moore lead the scoring with 23 points(5 dunks and two treys), 6’5” freshman guard Tahj Small had 19 points(5-9 from three point range), Verge had 17 points and 11 assists while freshman guard Markelo Sullivan had 17 points. Henderson had 23 points to lead SW Tennessee while Brown added 15 points.
In the first game on Saturday, Link Year Prep defeated Henry Ford 67-63. Moberly improved to 2-0 on the season.
