Completes 26-4 and undefeated Regional regular season
The Moberly Area CC Men’s Basketball Team defeated West Plains College 100-82 on Saturday evening in West Plains, Missouri to complete their regular season 26-4 overall and 8-0 in Region 16 play. The first 8 minutes of the game was a high scoring contest as Moberly trailed 25-24. The Greyhounds then gained a 9 point lead only to see West Plains come back and cut the lead to 48-47 at the half. After gaining the lead early in the second half, Moberly grabbed a 83-67 lead on a dunk by Alonzo Verge, Jr. and would lead comfortably the remainder of the game. Verge and Billy Thomas lead Moberly in scoring with 22 points each, Randy Miller added 14 and JaQualis Matlock had 11 points and 14 rebounds. West Plains drops to 22-8 and 3-5 in region play to end their regular season. West Plains was lead in scoring by Lovett with 18 points, Torres with 17 and Edwards had 16.
“West Plains does such a great job of playing fast and we really struggled to stop them early on the defensive end,” said Coach Pat Smith, “However, thought we got our defensive intensity and performance back as the game went on. It was a very satisfying win on the road against a high quality team. Now, it’s onto season 3 and the post season. Thanks to our many fans who came to the West Plains game and others who followed us on the radio. We will be working hard the next three days to get ready for the Jefferson City and the Regional Tournament.”
Moberly will play in the Semi Finals of the Region 16 Tournament on Thursday at Lincoln University in Jeffeson City at 6:00 pm vs. the winner of the Three Rivers-West Plains contest.
