Add two transfers, one frosh.

The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Program has added three players to their roster for the upcoming season. Signing with the Greyhounds are 6’8” 230 lb. post JJ Matthews from Richmond, Virginia; 6’5” sophomore wing Marcus Cole(Chicago, Illinois) and 6’6” wing Markell Jackson(Muskegon, Michigan). Matthews was a three star recruit out of high school as rated by and and attended Towson State University this past school year where he redshirted recovering from knee surgery. He lead Millbrook High School to the 2014 Virginia Class 2 State Championship his senior season averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots per game and was a four time MVP of his high school team.

Cole is a 6’5” versatile player who played this past season at Mott CC where he aveaged 15 ppg, 6 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent from the field. Cole was named the Freshman of the Year in the Michigan Jr. College Conference and 2nd team All League. He played his high school ball at Bogan High School in Chicago where he averaged 17 ppg and 7 rebounds per contest during his senior season.

Jackson is a 6’6” wing from Muskegon High where he averaged 16 ppg and 9 rebounds per game while leading his team to a 26-2 record his senior season. He was named first team All Area while also being named as the top three point shooter in the area( in a fan’s vote.

“We truly feel we have added three players who will all be huge keys to what we expect to be another very good team this upcoming season,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Matthews was recruited by pretty much all of the top Jucos from the time he decided to leave. He’s a big who has versatile skills, can be a Go To player in the post for us. Cole and Jackson just give us tremendous verstatility in terms of their abilities and how we can use them in our system. Cole had a very good freshman year at Mott and is a really good attacker off the dribble, just very athletic. Jackson’s potential is just sky-high as he’s so skilled and one of the best three point shooters I’ve seen coming out of high school. He’s also just played two years of high school ball so he’s not even close to peaking out. We still have 4 to 5 to still sign but very pleased with our recruiting up to this point.”

Moberly finished 27-5 last season while winning the Region 16 regular season title, MCCAC Conference Champs and #16 national ranked in final poll.
