The Lady Greyhounds of Moberly Area Community College came running out of the gate last night as they hosted Penn Valley Community College at Fitzsimmons-John Arena. The result was a 29-8 lead after the first quarter of play and a 29 point, 56-27, advantage at halftime.
MACC shot 49 percent for the game and made 26 of 36 free throw attempts in route to the 100-66 victory over the Lady Scouts. Penn Valley shot 33 percent from the field and the Lady Greyhounds held a 48-32 advantage on the glass as they picked up their fourth win over a six day span.
“We played pretty well on both ends of the floor in the first half,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “But, they started making shots in the second half and we were sloppy with the ball, and that resulted in us playing pretty much even in the second half. I talk a lot about the importance of each possession every year, and this will be a game that we can go back and look at some situations and, hopefully, learn from those for the future.”
Angelica Wiggins did a little bit of everything for MACC as she totaled 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Carnethia Brown scored 18 points and dished out six assists, while Anisha George just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. George also recorded three blocked shots. Sentreal Gregory just missed reaching double figures with nine points, Brianna Perry, TrEl’Shawn Smith, and Jocelyn Taylor each added eight points. Lunden Henry scored seven points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
MACC will host their annual Midwest Bone & Joint Center Classic this weekend. The annual post-Thanksgiving event will feature ranked teams on both the men’s and women’s side. The Lady Greyhounds will host #14 Wabash Valley College on Friday night before facing Shawnee Community College on Saturday.
