22 game slate features 13 home contests
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Program announced their revised 2021 Basketball Schedule. The schedule had to be revised due to the NJCAA moving the Basketball season to second semester with a January 22 start date. The 22 game schedule consists of 13 home games including two home classics.
Moberly will start the season in the West Plains Classic on Jan. 22-23 and then host two classics the following two weekends on Jan. 29-30 and Feb. 5-6. The February Classic should be one of the best in the nation with Region IV power Triton College, State Fair and Prep School powerhouse Sunrise Academy out of Wichita, Kansas composing the field. A new format this season in Region 16 is that each team will play each other 3 times making up a 12 game Region slate. The Greyhounds will continue their home and home series with Metropolitan CC(Kansas City, Mo.) while having home contests with North Central Missouri College and St. Louis CC.
“It’s been real interesting putting together two separate schedules,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “However, there’s been some talk recently about moving college basketball primarily to the second semester so this is something we could see in the future as well. I feel we have a very competitive schedule with the 12 region games, which was voted in for this season, and three very good classics. The four NJCAA Division II teams are always very competitive so feel we will be tested throughout the 22 game slate. As always, our goals remain the same; Become a really good and tough team, compete to win every game and win Region/District Titles at the end of the season. Can’t wait to get our guys in and begin this journey.”
Smith stated that he expects the Greyhounds to sign two more players for the upcoming season. He also said the Greyhounds will begin practice on approximately September 18 until November 18 to make use of their 60 first semester calendar days.
