Winning streak reaches 5 with victories over Henry Ford, John Wood
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team got the second portion of their schedule off to a successful start with two victories in the John Wood Comm. College Classic this past Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, Moberly trailed Henry Ford CC(Michigan) 31-35 at the half but came out and established early 2nd half dominance as they cruised to a 84-67 victory. Henry Ford had won 8 of 9 games going into the classic and fell to 8-5 with the loss. Alonzo Verge lead Moberly in scoring with 25 points and 5 assists while Sean Miller-Moore added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Markelo Sullivan added 11 points (3 made treys) and Mike Hood contributed 10 points on two made three pointers.
MOBERLY 76, JOHN WOOD 65
In the classic finale, Moberly gained control of the game early and opened up a 42-33 halftime lead on the way to a 76-65 victory over Classic hosts John Wood CC in Quincy, Illinois. Verge lead the Greyhounds in scoring with 26 points and 8 assists while Sean Miller-Moore added 24 points. Demarcus Sharpe rounded out the double figure scoring with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Moberly stretched their winning streak to 5 games while improving their overall record to 12-5.
“After a very good finish to our first semester, great to come back and get the first two wins to start our second half schedule,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Thought our play was somewhat up and down, must be more consistent to beat the teams we have remaining in our schedule. We’re a team still seeking that next level of consistency, both offensively and defensively. However, had some good things show up and all in all, good start to what lies ahead.”
Moberly returns to action Saturday evening, January 5 when they host Southeastern Iowa CC at 7:00 pm at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena.
