#8 ranked Hounds improve to 7-0
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team improved their record to 7-0 with two victories in the State Fair CC Laser Image Classic. The Greyhounds defeated Link Year Prep 119-77 in the opening game on Friday as they jumped to a 14-2 start en route to a 59-37 halftime lead. Moberly stretched the lead to 74-39 to start the second half before cruising to the victory. Randy Miller lead the scoring with 17 points(3-4 from three-point range), Freshman wing Sean Miller-Moore added 14 points, 6’8” freshman post JJ Matthews had 12 points and 6 rebounds, freshman PG Alonzo Verge added 12 points and 6 assists, freshman guard Billy Thomas scored 11 points on 3-5 three-point shooting, sophomore wing Tra Edwards had 11 points, and 6’6” sophomore power forward JaQualis Matlock scored 11 points. 6’7” freshman forward Alphonso Anderson had 10 points to round out the double-figure scoring. Cameron Carson and Porter Anderson lead Link Year Prep in scoring with 16 points each.
In Saturday’s game vs. Westminister JV’s, Moberly lead 60-25 at the half and coasted to a 117-49 victory. Randy Miller again leads the scoring with 23 points(4 made threes), sophomore PG Tyrone Alston scored 15 points. sophomore wing Dallas Morgan added 14 points, Alonzo Verge contributed 13 points along with 5 assists. Luke Rogers lead Westminister JV’s with 18 points(5 made three-pointers).
“Two nice wins but obviously the competition really steps up from here on out,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “However, I know our players are looking forward to that and our ability to play the process out each day in terms of improvement will determine our success.”
Moberly returns to action on Tuesday, November 21 as they host Penn Valley CC at 7:00 pm.
