8th ranked Moberly Greyhounds beat Planet Academy, Arkansas Baptist
The Moberly Greyhounds defeated Planet Academy 124 – 91 in their opening game of the MACC Orscheln Industries Classic. Moberly jumped out to an early 19 – 0 lead and were never looked back. Leading 73 – 40 at half, Moberly cruised to an easy victory.
Sophomore guard Randy Miller led the Greyhounds in scoring with 24 points while fellow sophomore guard Dallas Morgan had 16 points. Freshmen wing Sean Miller-Moore scored 15 points, sophomore wing Tre Edwards contributed 12 and JJ Matthews had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Alonzo Verge had 8 points and 6 assists while forward JaQualis Matlock added 11 rebounds. Springer led Planet Academy with 21 points while Black added 19 points.
Moberly 94, Arkansas Baptist 65
In the classic finale, Moberly jumped out to a 47 – 27 halftime lead and defeated Arkansas Baptist 94 – 65. The Greyhounds full court pressure defense to forced the Buffaloes into 29 turnovers. Sophomore guard Randy Miller with led all scorers with 17 points, including 5 three pointers. Sophomore post JJ Matthews added 15 points, while guard Dallas Morgan scored 13 points. Freshman guard Alonzo Verge added 12 points and 8 assists. Jones led Arkansas Baptist with 19 points while Spriggens added 11 points. Moberly improved to 3-0 with the win while Arkansas Baptist dropped to 0 – 2.
In other Orscheln classic games, Southeastern Community College (Iowa) defeated Arkansas Baptist 80 – 75 on Friday. In Saturday’s first game, Southeastern Community College defeated Planet Academy 86 – 69.
