Moberly 87, Marshalltown 75
The Moberly Area CC Greyhounds defeated Marshalltown CC in the second round of the William Baer Invitational Tournament in Freeport, Illinois. Moberly gained a 52-36 lead at the half behind 24 first half points by Alonzo Verge, Jr. including 17 straight points during one stretch. Marshalltown came back to cut the lead to 3 points during the middle part of the second half but Moberly spurted at the end to claim it’s second win of the tourney. Verge lead the Greyhounds with 34 points, Randy Miller added 16 points and JJ Matthews ended with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Oscar Kao lead Marsahlltown with 28 points(8 of 12 from three point range) and Kelton Edwards scored 21 points(4 made treys). Moberly improved to 12-1 on the season while Marshalltown dropped to 9-5.
Moberly 102, Iowa Central CC 80
Moberly opened the tournament with a 102-80 victory over Iowa Central CC. After leading 35-34 at the half, Moberly saw Iowa Central come back and gain a 53-47 lead with 14 minutes remaining. MObelry grabbed the lead behind the hot shooting of sophomore guard Dallas Morgan with 7 of 9 three point shooting and coasted to the victory. Verge lead the Greyhounds with scoring with 28 points, Morgan added 25 points, Randy Miller had 13 points and JaQualis Matlock had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Moberly moved to 11-1 with the victory while #13 DII nationally ranked Iowa Central dropped to 11-2 on the season.
