#17 ranked Greyhounds vs. Region 4 Winner
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team will be hosting Highland(Ill.) CC in the Midwest District Finals on Saturday, March 7 at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena with game time at 7:00 pm. Moberly defeated #5 nationally ranked Mineral Area 91-65 in the finals of the Region 16 Tournament to advance to the District Finals vs. Highland, who defeated #22 nationally ranked Triton College 66-60 to win the Region 4 Tournament. The winner of the contest will automatically advance to the NJCAA National Tournament starting on March 16 in Hutchinson, Kansas which will consist of 16 region/district winners and 8 at large berths. Moberly is the defending District Champ after defeating Triton College last season 93-89 to end Triton’s 82 game home winning streak.
“So proud of what our guys have accomplished this season and in the regional tourney last week,” said Coach Pat Smith, “However, this is the next step and after winning the Regional, what we’ve worked for all season. Highland is a very good team who have won 19 of 20 games since we played them in December, a very well coached and versatile team. You don’t get to this point and defeat a team the caliber of Triton without being an outstanding team and a squad playing very well. Should be a great atmosphere Saturday evening and really enjoy creating big game scenarios like the District Finals at our place. Just so glad to be practicing this week and having a game to prepare for.”
Moberly is currently 26-6 on the season, ranked #17 in the latest NJCAA Poll, won 6 consecutive games and 16 of the last 18 games while Highland currently stands 27-6 on the season.
