The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team was defeated In their MCCAC Conference Opener by St. Louis CC Archers 80-71 Tuesday evening. Moberly jumped out to an early 10-3 and 20-9 lead before gaining a 35-33 halftime advantage. After leading early in the second half 40-35, Moberly saw St. Louis CC come back and eventually gain a 63-47 lead aided by many of the 20 turnovers the Greyhounds committed. MACC would get back within 72-69 but could get no closer as St. Louis CC hit free throws down the stretch to gain the victory. Randy Miller, Jr. lead Moberly in scoring with 17 points while Dallas Morgan scored 11 points. Wooten lead the Archers in scoring with 30 points, Pruitt and Lloyd had 12 points each while Lockett contributed 10 points.
“It was just a bad night in St. Louis,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “We really struggled to execute offensively and just not getting the defensive stops we need to be successful. 20 turnovers doomed us which lead to transition points for them, we gave up offensive rebounds and 2nd chance points and just had too many breakdowns. I take the blame because I just didn’t have us ready to play tonight, it’s back to the drawing board and we have to make sure we have our effort and system ready to go Friday night. I give Coach Terry Collins and his team just a lot of credit, they outplayed and outcoached us to get this win. However, we can bounce back from this and need to move forward to become the type of team we want to be.”
Moberly dropped to 15-3 with their second straight loss. They will return to action this Friday, January 12 as they host Three Rivers Comm.College Raiders in their opening Region 16 game at 7:00 pm at the Fitzsimmons John Arena.
