Defeated 91-75 in Missouri-Illinois Shootout
The Moberly Area CC Men’s Basketball Team was defeated by John A. Logan College 91-75 in the Missouri vs. Illinois Basketball Shootout this past Sunday at Forest Park CC in St. Louis. The Greyhounds fell behind early 17-5 and although cutting the lead to 7 points early in the second half at 43-50, could not get any closer the remainder of the game. Moberly was lead in scoring by Alonzo Verge who had 22 points and 12 assists while Sean Miller-Moore added 21 points and 7 rebounds.
“It was definitely a very challenging week with the tough loss at Southeastern Iowa and then the loss to John Logan this past Sunday,” said Coach Pat Smith, “Without a doubt, the best two teams we’ve played and we need to learn a lot from it. We’ve got to figure it out and make the improvements necessary to become the type of team that can win these games. John Logan played really well and I’ve got to systematically and through execution get to where we can become much better defensively, more efficient on offense and make sure we have the right playing rotation. It’s a long season and while we badly want to get where we need to be right now, more importantly to see the entire picture and have our team where they need to be in January thru March. Knew with our schedule that there would be some tough stretches and we’re in one right now, huge to use this week of practice to make the changes necessary.”
Moberly dropped to 7-4 with the loss while John Logan improved to 8-1 with the victory. The Greyhounds return to action this Saturday, December 8 with a home contest vs. arch rival Indian Hills Comm. College.
