Drop to 7-5 on season with loss
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team was defeated by Indian Hills 93-80 on Saturday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. After trailing 32-35 at the half and being within two points at 63-61 with 8 minutes remaining, the Greyhounds hit a scoring drought while the Warriors got hot to push the lead to 17 points. Sean Miller Moore lead Moberly with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists while freshman Raekwon Drake had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Alonzo Verge added 17 points while Tahj Small scored 13 points. Chisom lead Indian Hills with 22 points, Wagner scored 14 points and Patton added 11 points.
“Very tough three game stretch we’ve been on playing against, in my opinion, three top 15 calibre teams,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “We did some good things against Hills, unfortunately very inconsistent with bad stretches thrown in there. We have had our offensive execution kill us and we’ve got to turn that around. In fact, don’t know if I’ve had any team hurt themselves with shot selection and poor decisions as much as we have recently. Now with that said, if and we will , improve our ability to get what we want offensively this team will see immediate improvement. It’s a long season and my goal is to see this team develop into a very good team that can seek improvement everyday and that starts with how we practice. We want to be ready come regional time and more immediately, finish this semester strong both academically and on the court. That’s one of my favorite areas of coaching is seeing teams improve and get it, no doubt this team can and will get there.”
Moberly dropped to 7-5 with the loss while the 13th ranked Indian Hills squad improved to 8-3. Moberly finishes up the first semester by participating in the Highland CC Invitational Holidays Tournament and they will open play by playing Sauk Valley on Friday, Dec. 14 at 3:00 pm. The Hounds will play 3 games in the two day tournament.
