Moberly over Raiders 77-76 to move to finals.
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Three Rivers CC 77-76 in the Region 16 Semi-finals on Friday afternoon at Lincoln University. Moberly spurted at the end of the first half to grab a 44-34 halftime lead despite a last second half court bank shot by Lamar Wilkerson of Three Rivers. However, Three Rivers came out very strong to start the second half and game became a back and forth affair until the end. Jimmy Bell forced a steal that Sincere Parker turned into a made three pointer to give Moberly a 74-73 lead they would not relinquish. Parker and fellow returnee Tyren Moore lead Moberly in scoring with 25 points each with both players hitting 5 three pointers each while Makalani Kafele added 11 points(3 made treys). Lamar Wilkerson lead Three Rivers with a game high 27 points, 6’7” forward Keith Kiner scored 18 points and Kinyon Hodges added 14 points.
“I knew this was going to be a very tough, close game against a really good, well coached Three Rivers team,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Just so fortunate that I’ve got players who stayed in the moment and were able to make winning plays throughout the contest as needed. Three Rivers played so well and we had to find our level of competitive greatness to survive and advance. Just so proud of our team and looking forward to the next step in our journey.”
Moberly improved to 25-6 with the victory while Three Rivers ends their season with an 18-10 record.
