6th straight victory in Region 16 opener
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Three Rivers 128-93 in their Region 16 opener this past Friday at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Moberly jumped out to a 63-43 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. Moberly was lead in scoring by Frosh. guard Dezi Jones with a career high of 29 points while 6’10” post Dusan Mahorcic had 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Moberly had six players in double figures with Eddie Creal scoring 17 points, Cortez Mosely had 16 points, Tyrek Chambers scored 13 points and Juwan Carpenter contributed 12 points and 8 assists. Three Rivers was lead in scoring with Tallon Fonda with 22 points while Hayden Sprenkel had 15 points.
“Very impressive performance by our guys tonight,” said Coach Pat Smith, “Especially in the areas of ball movement and playing fast into our offense. Just one of those nights we had great flow. With that said, still made a lot of defensive mistakes that we must improve on. Great to open the Region play with a nice win, now it’s onto a very good State Fair team.”
Moberly won their 6th straight game to improve their record to 16-4 on the season, 3-0 in the MCCAC and 1-0 in Region 16 competition. Three Rivers dropped to 11-7 on the season and 0-2 in Regional play. Moberly returns to action this Wednesday as they travel to Sedalia to play State Fair at 7:30 pm.
