Improves to 17-4 with 7th straight win
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team went to Sedalia on Wednesday and defeated the State Fair CC Roadrunners 92-78 in Region 16 action. Moberly jumped out to an early 11 point margin before leading 49-44 at the half. After State Fair tied the game at 67 all with 10 minutes remaining, Moberly went on a 25-11 run to close out the contest. Moberly was lead in scoring by 6’5” frosh. forward Cortez Mosely with a career high 35 points(11-18 from the field and 12-13 free throws) while 5’10” frosh. guard Dezi Jones had 17 points and 5 rebounds, with Markelo Sullivan contributing 11 points and 6 rebounds. Damaria Franklin and Malcolm Townsell lead State Fair with 32 points each.
“ A tremendous victory on the road against a good State Fair Team,” said Coach Pat Smith, “A game of runs and fortunately we had a real good one late as our defense stepped up. Early in the game, we couldn’t keep them from attacking the basket. However, really proud of how we hung in there and finished the contest. Now, the next step is to day by day improve and get ready to play an excellent #3 nationally ranked and undefeated Mineral Area Team on Saturday at our place.”
Moberly improved to 17-4 overall with their 7th consecutive victory and 4-0 in the MCCAC along with 2-0 in the Region 16 standings. State Fair dropped to 12-8 overall and 0-2 in Region 16. Moberly returns to action this Saturday as they host Mineral Area at 7 pm at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena.
