Moberly wins fifth straight to improve to 15-4
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team went on the road Tuesday night and defeated St. Louis CC 85-68 in their opening MCCAC contest. Moberly fell behind early 11-6 but came back to lead 36-26 at the half. After a see saw battle to start the second half, Moberly broke the game open midway thru the second half behind hot 3 point shooting by Dezi Jones and eventually lead 75-51. Frosh. PG Dezi Jones lead Moberly with 18 points(4-9 from 3 point range), soph. guard Markelo Sullivan had 17 points(5-10 from behind the arc) and frosh. guard Tyrek Chambers added 13 points(3-5 from three point range). Clark had 24 points to lead St. Louis CC while Vermillion added 12 points.
“I was very concerned coming into this game because St. Louis is well coached and plays so hard, plus the fact it was sandwiched between SE Iowa and Three Rivers,” said Coach Pat Smith, “I don’t think we played great, had too many mistakes, but still applaud our guys for coming in here on the road and getting the “W”. Thought we did play well at times and did a great job of seizing momentum the second half. However, got some things we got to clean up before a very good Three Rivers team comes here Friday night. We haven’t been home since November so we’re ready to play before the Greyhound fans here in a great rivalry game. However, so appreciative to all our fans to go on the road too support us.”
Moberly improved to 15-4 with their fifth consecutive victory and 7th win in the last 8 games. They will start NJCAA Region 16 competition Friday night as they will host Three Rivers at 7:00 pm with the game being sponsored by Treva and Bob Mongler.
