Moberly wins fourth straight for sweep of Blackhawks
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team went to Burlington, Iowa on Saturday evening and defeated Southeastern CC 71-67. Moberly fell behind early 21-12 but came back to get within 40-44 at the half. After grabbing an early 46-44 lead to start the 2nd stanza , Moberly saw SE Iowa come back to grab 56-48 lead. However, the Greyhounds came back to tie the game at 65 all on a Dezi Jones 3 pointer and took the lead on an offensive putback by Dusan Mahorcic. Moberly was lead in scoring by Eddie Creal with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Dezi Jones added 14 points and Juwon Carpenter scored 10 points. Aaaris Bonds lead SE Iowa with 12 points, Camryn Weston had 11 points and Carlos Lemus scored 10 points. Moberly had 17 offensive rebounds which was a big key to the victory.
“Really proud of our guys for how they hung in to give be in position to end the game” said Coach Pat Smith, “This has been a very tough place for us to win so really pleased with our effort and performance. We held them to 23 points the second half and thought our defense was outstanding against a very talented Southeastern team. Now it’s onto conference and regional play and we have to keep our momentum going.”
Moberly improved to 14-4 on the season with their fourth straight victory and 10th win in the last 12 games while Southeastern Iowa dropped to 14-4 for the season. MACC returns to action this Tuesday as they start MCCAC competition on the road vs. St. Louis CC(Forrest Park) at 7 pm.
