Contest between two nationally ranked squads
The #24 nationally ranked Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team defeated #16 Southeastern Iowa CC 97-68 on Saturday evening at Moberly’s Fitzsimmons-John Arena. After falling behind 20-17 midway thru the first half, Moberly spurted to lead 46-30 at the half. Moberly extended the lead to over 20 points to start the second half and was never threatened the remainder of the game. Eddie Creal had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Markelo Sullivan scored 19 points on five made treys to lead Moberly while freshman Cortez Mosely had 16 points, Frosh. guard Dezi Jones added 12 points, frosh guard Tyrek Chambers contributed 11 and 6’10” soph post Dusan Mahorcic had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Lemus and Zhganti had 14 points each to lead Southeastern Iowa. Moberly improved to 6-2 with the victory while Southeastern Iowa dropped to 6-2 after the contest.
“Our most impressive win and performance of the season, no doubt about it,” said Coach Pat Smith, “I thought we set the tone with our pressure defense and it lead to a very strong performance overall against a Southeastern Iowa squad that has been very good all season. We must keep progressing and reach the consistent level of being there every night that very good teams do. We have a very challenging Thanksgiving week with these three games and look forward to getting back to the grind.”
Moberly returns to action this Tuesday at 7 pm as they host Metropolitan CC.
