Road victory gives Hounds 10th straight win
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Mineral Area College 86-76 on Saturday afternoon in Park Hills, Missouri. Moberly jumped out to an early 23-5 lead behind 3 made treys by Tahj Small only to see Mineral Area come back and get within 43-35 at the half. After Mineral Area took a 55-51 lead to start the second half, the Greyhounds went on a spurt to grab a 66-58 lead they never surrendered behind key baskets by Markelo Sullivan and Mike Hood. Alonzo Verge lead Moberly with 28 points and 5 assists while Small added 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Sullivan scored 13 points and Hood contributed 11 points.
“Very good road win vs. a really good team, “ said Coach Patrick Smith, “We didn’t sustain momentum the first half, MAC really had a nice rally but just so proud of the toughness and staying the course mentality we displayed in pulling out the victory. We had some players really step up and make plays which you must have against quality opponents.”
Moberly improves to 17-5 on the season with a 3-0 Region 16 record in stretching their winning streak to 10 games. Mineral Area drops to 15-5 overall and 0-2 in Regional games.
