Improves record to 21-6 behind Verge’s 44 points
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Link Year Prep 105-73 on Tuesday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Moberly overcame an early 14-8 deficit to lead 51-39 at the half. Moberly eventually broke the game open and coasted to the victory behind 44 points by Alonzo Verge(6-8 three pointers including a couple of 35 foot plus shots) along with 8 assists. Tahj Small had 19 points(5-10 from behind the arc) and Sean Miller-Moore added 19 points and 8 rebounds. Danny Smith scored 14 points to lead Link Year Prep while Gulot added 13 points.
“Coming off our first loss in two months, it was good to come out and get back on the winning track,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Felt we were kind of up and down defensively along with consistency of offensive execution, but to get a 30 plus victory against a team that has 8 players rated Division One means we did some thjngs well. We still have to overcome the times we get away from the way we play on both sides of the ball as we’re still striving for the 30-35 minutes per game of really good basketball. However good win and now it’s back to Region 16 play Saturday night at State Fair.”
Moberly improved to 21-6 on the season with their 14th victory in 15 games. They currently stand 8-0 in the MCCAC Conference and 6-0 in Region 16 while returning to action Saturday evening at State Fair with a 7:30 pm tip off.
