The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball squad defeated John Wood CC 99-79 on Tuesday evening at Fitzsimmons-John Arena. John Wood jumped out to an early 14-5 lead but Moberly came back behind their pressure defense to lead 47-37 at halftime. The Greyhounds eventually lead 82-56 and coasted to the victory. Moberly was lead by Eddie Creal with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Markelo Sullivan scored 17 points(5 made treys, 4 three pointers to start 2nd half), Tyrek Chambers added 14 points and Dezi Jones contributed 12 points and 5 assists. John Wood was lead in scoring by Bradyn Kilby with 16 points and Chandler Bevans with 9 points.
“John Wood is very tough to play against because of their systematic approach to their offense and how well they execute,” said Coach Pat Smith, “I thought we played 20 minutes of good basketball, the last 10 of the first half and first 10 minutes of the second half. Thought our pressure defensively got better but we must continue our progression to be more consistent and not so roller coaster. Still trying to figure out some things about this team and the games only get tougher.”
Moberly improved to 3-0 on the season while John Wood dropped to 1-2. Moberly returns to action this Friday in the innaugral Iowa-Missouri Challenge at State Fair CC as they play Marshalltown at 4 pm and then go against Iowa Western on Saturday, November 9 at 5:00 pm.
