#11 ranked Hounds Improve to 3-0 to start season
The Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds improved to 3-0 for the season with a 95-84 victory over John Wood CC Tuesday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Moberly grabbed an early 10 point lead at 37-27 behind some hot shooting by freshman guard Markelo Sullivan but saw John Wood come back and only trail 41-37 at the half. Moberly spurted to start the second half and eventually saw the lead reach 22 points at 73-51. However, the visiting Trailablazers continued to battle and got the lead down to 8 points late. Arizona commit Alonzo Verge, Jr. had 25 points and 6 assists while fellow sophomore Sean Miller-Moore also had 25 points and 6 rebounds., Freshman wing Tahj Small added 22 points on 5 of 7 three point shooting and Sullivan added 14 points on 4-7 from behind the arc.
“I thought we did some things well, still too inconsistent in all areas,” said Coach Pat Smith, “however, I give a lot of credit to John Wood as they are so well coached and really execute. However, we have to eliminate the breakdowns that lead to bad possessions on both areas of the game. So much of offense is decision making and we must improve in that area. With that said, it’s a good win over a good team and bought us more time to get hopefully get better.”
Moberly now travels to Chicago on Friday to play at Kennedy King College at 5:00 pm.
