For five of the past six weeks the NJCAA Region 16 Player of the Week has come from the Moberly Area Community College women’s basketball program, and three of those five weeks the Lady Greyhound player selected has been Anisha George, who has now been awarded that distinction four times this season.
George, a 6’2” sophomore post from the U.S. Virgin Islands, garnered her fourth selection as she averaged 15.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and two blocks per game, while shooting 73.7 percent from the field. In 37 minutes of court time George totaled 31 points and 19 rebounds as she continued her efficient play that has helped MACC to a perfect season.
Against Penn Valley Community College foul trouble limited George to just 12 minutes of action, but she made the most of that time as she scored 16 points on eight of 10 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds as the Lady Greyhounds picked up their ninth road win of the season with a 72-55 victory.
On Saturday, George logged 25 minutes and connected on six of nine field goal attempts, as well as all three of her free throw attempts, while securing 12 rebounds as MACC defeated State Fair Community College 74-51. It was her 12th double-double of the season and the victory allowed the Lady Greyhound to tie the program’s all-time record for consecutive victories as they picked up their 27th win in a row and clinched their first MCCAC championship in the process.
