Moberly Area Community College’s Anisha George was recently named the recipient of the NJCAA Region 16 Player of the Week award for January 29th-February 4th. The Lady Greyhounds have now had the Player of the Week in the region for four consecutive weeks, including George two weeks ago. It is also the third time this season that George has garnered the award. She was named National Player of the Week for her performance on the court from November 20th-26th.
The 6-2 sophomore posted two double-doubles last week, beginning with a 21 point, 10 rebound game against Crowder College. George converted 10 of 13 field goal attempts and one of two free throws while also recording three blocks and three steals in a 66-53 home win over the Lady Roughriders.
George followed that performance up with 22 points and 11 rebounds as MACC defeated Mineral Area College 81-63 on the road Saturday evening. Against the Lady Cardinals George shot nine of 11 from the field and three of four from the free throw line and rounded out her stat line with three blocks and a steal.
Over the course of two games last week George made 19 of 24 shots, four of six free throws, and hauled in 21 rebounds as she averaged 21 points, 10.5 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in 26 minutes per game.
The Lady Greyhounds, who remain unbeaten at 24-0, continue to be ranked 6th in the most recent NJCAA Division I Top 25 poll and will host Arkansas Baptist College on Wednesday night in their annual “Shooting for a Cure” event. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
