MACC MEN’S AND WOMEN’S GREYHOUND BASKETBALL TEAMS QUALIFY FOR NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS MARCH 14-21, 2022

Moberly Area Community College invites you to send our Greyhounds off to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s National Basketball Tournament.

At the Men’s Sendoff on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., both the Men’s and Women’s teams will be available for photos and autographs.

The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas during the week of March 14-19.  The first game of the tournament will take place at 10 am on Monday, March 14 against Region 23 champion Pearl River CC (Mississippi).  In the Midwest District Championship on Saturday, March 5, Moberly defeated Triton College 83-74 to qualify for the National Tournament. The Greyhounds won the Region 16 Championship by defeating #16 ranked Mineral Area 86-82 (OT) on February 26. 

“Very proud of the effort our players have displayed in winning championships to get us to this stage,” said Head Coach Patrick Smith, “However, there’s still lots more to accomplish beginning with preparing to play a very good Pearl River squad. As much as we have improved, there are still areas we can elevate and I’m really looking forward to this week of practice to continue the progress.  I just truly enjoy coaching this team and so looking forward to preparing for Hutch.”

MACC will be making its 30th appearance at the National Tournament. Currently, Moberly is 27-6 on the season with an 11-game winning streak. In addition, the Lady Greyhounds won a bid for the third consecutive year. They will also be making their way to the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, TX during the week of March 14-19. 

A send-off will be held as the Greyhound Men’s basketball team leaves for the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.  On Saturday, March 12, 2022, around noon, Coach Smith said the bus will depart from the MACC – Activity Center.  Plan to arrive around 11:00 a.m. 

On Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm, we will send off the Lady Greyhounds.  Our girls will be traveling to the NJCAA Tournament for their 3rd consecutive year as they make their way to Lubbock for the National Tournament!  Coach Hana says the bus will depart around 2:00 p.m.  The Lady Greyhounds are currently ranked #10 in the nation (NJCAA D1 Rankings).

Head Coach Pat Smith leads the Greyhounds to the NJCAA National Tournament for the fifth time, and head coach Hana Haden leads the Lady Greyhounds to the NJCAA National Tournament for the third time in her four years as a coach.

There will be long-sleeve commemorative t-shirts available for purchase at the sendoff parties. Shirts cost $15 each with a choice of “Road to Lubbock” or “Hounds to Hutch”. We will be live streaming tournament play from each of our 5 campuses from March 14-21.

MACC GREYHOUNDS WIN MIDWEST DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

Defeat Triton College 83-74 to qualify for Hutch.

The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Triton College 83-74 to win the Midwest District Championship at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena on Saturday evening.   The game involved the winner of NJCAA Region 16,  #22 nationally ranked Moberly, hosting the #10 ranked NJCAA Region 4 Winner Triton College from Chicago. Moberly jumped out to an early 10-2 lead only to see Triton go on a 15-0 run to grab a 17-10 lead.  Moberly regained the lead at 21-19 and would never relinquish the lead the remainder of the game, leading 38-37 at the half.  Moberly’s largest lead was 66-52 but Triton got within 72-70 before Moberly secured the contest with timely baskets, good FT shooting and defensive stops. Sincere Parker, 6’4” freshman wing, lead Moberly with 23 points, 6’4’ sophomore wing Michael Thomas added 20 points, 6’0” PG Tyren Moore scored 17 points and 8 assists while 6’8” post Dorian Staples contributed 12 points with 10 rebounds.   Triton College was lead by Kolbe Montgomery with 15 points(5 made threes), Kalakon scored 12 points along with McKeithen also scoring 12 points.

“Just a tremendous effort by our guys, so proud of the team they have become,” said Coach Patrick  Smith, “Three tough post-season games that we have demonstrated  an outstanding level of toughness, poise and togetherness to secure Regional and District Championships. It’s what you work for as a coach, to see your team develop into an “US” group where it’s about it the Team with egos put aside and one common goal.  Triton is a really good team so once again we have proven what quality of team we have become.   Tremendous atmosphere here tonight with out crowd and just really appreciate the support we receive.  Now it’s onto Hutch and the next step as we await the selection show to see where we are seeded and play first round.  The best part of this is getting to continue to coach this team. “

Moberly improves to 27-6 with their 11th consecutive victory and will now participate in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas March 14-19.  Triton College drops to 28-5 with the loss and will now await the Selection Sunday to see if they receive an At-Large Bid.

MACC  GREYHOUNDS TO HOST TRITON COLLEGE SATURDAY

Midwest District Championship at 7 pm.

The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team will be hosting Triton College on Saturday Evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena with game time at 7 pm.   The contest will be the Midwest District Championship between NJCAA Region 16 winner Moberly and Region 4 champion Triton College. #22 nationally ranked Moberly is currently 26-6 on the season and on a 10 game winning streak after defeating #16 ranked Mineral Area 86-82 (OT) in the championship game of the Regional. Triton is 27-4 on the season, ranked #10 in the NJCAA and defeated Kankakee 92-65 in the finals of the Northern Illinois Region. The winner of the contest will receive an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas March 14-19.

                No season tickets or passes will be honored since this is an NJCAA sanctioned event.  Tickets can be purchased at the gate with prices $10 for adults and $5 for children.
