Greyhound Softball Diamond Club

Hello My Friends,

A new tradition is starting here at Moberly Area Community College. Softball is starting for the 2022-2023 season. Excitement is an understatement for bringing new student-athletes to our community. We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring softball to Moberly and compete in the challenging MCCAC and NJCAA Region XVI.

As you can imagine, we are very busy gearing up for MACC Softball in 2022-2023. Our ultimate goal is to give our student-athletes the best possible collegiate experience they can have. We want them to carry themselves with pride. We want them to present themselves in a first-class manner, and we want to always uphold the tradition of success that MACC has established over the years.

We understand that families and businesses have been negatively affected by the pandemic. As we transition back to a more normal life, we humbly ask for your support for our new softball program. With your support, we will provide a first-class atmosphere for the student-athletes, apparel, training equipment, travel, technology, and team building opportunities. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law, minus the fair market value of items received.

From our administration to our coaching staff and, more importantly, to our student-athletes, we fully recognize that the many things we will do for our programs will come from your assistance. We in Greyhound Nation understand that you have numerous choices regarding where your donation dollars go. We hope that you will look at us as a viable option with that in mind. We would love to have you as part of our Greyhound Family, and we appreciate your consideration.

Get to know Coach Bauer

MACC softball lays the groundwork for a strong inaugural season with the hiring of new head coach Matt Bauer. The Frazee, Minnesota native has coached softball for more than 13 years, most recently as the head coach at Frazee High School, whose program achieved Gold Academic Team status for three straight years, tied for most wins in program history, back-to back third-place finishes in the section, and second place in the conference. In addition to coaching the high school team, Bauer also coached a club team that had back-to-back state runner-up finishes in its category out of Frazee, MN.

Coach Bauer noticed the Lady Greyhound job posting as he finished his MA in Sport Management from Concordia University, and he jumped at the opportunity. “Softball is really my passion, my purpose in life. For a coach to be able to start a program from the ground up is an absolute dream come true.” As a child, he travelled to watch his father play fast-pitch softball competitively, making softball a part of his life. He played different sports himself, but kept being drawn back to softball as a coach.

Bauer says the Moberly community has been welcoming and is excited about the program coming. He and his wife of 25 years, Joyce, are getting settled in town and learning the area. Their 3 daughters, Desiree (23, in South Dakota), Savanna (20, at North Dakota State University), and Alexis (19, at Southwest Minnesota State University) are all still within driving distance. They have a dog and a cat at home, just to keep the empty nest from being too quiet. This academic year is dedicated to getting a strong program established. Coach Bauer is getting to know MACC and its people, as well as developing relationships with local coaches and players. Equipment needs to be ordered and uniforms designed. As for recruiting players, Bauer says that local excitement has already brought a lot of attention to the program, and he’s had high school players reach out to him. A full roster is 20-24 players, and the pieces of that are starting to come together.

The fall of 2022 will bring up to 10 preseason games, and regular season competition begins early spring of 2023 with 30 games. Home games will be played at Moberly’s Howard Hils Athletic Complex, which Bauer calls “a great joint effort between the city and the college, which will benefit both.” Watch for updates come spring for scheduling and ticket information. Apparel will be available soon for those ready to support the softball team, and we hope to see a lot of Lady Greyhound softball gear being worn!
