The nationally ranked Moberly Greyhounds will open their regular season by hosting Faith Prep from West Memphis, Arkansas Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena.

The Greyhounds are coming off a 27-5 season in which they captured the MCCAC Conference Title, Region 16 regular season championship, Highland Tourney Title and Region 16 runner up. Returning starters include Dallas Morgan, Tyree White (out with stress fracture) and red-shirt freshman Will Rucker to go with 11 new players.

“I know our players are ready and anxious to get the season started,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “We’ve had a good preseason, minus a couple of players to begin the season but that’s unfortunately part of the game. We’ve had success in our scrimmages but now it’s the real thing with the actual games coming fast and furious.  We wanted to get to the opening of the season feeling like we are where we need to be at this time, but now it’s time to really anchor down and seek daily improvement and progression. With three games in first four days of the season, what a great time for our players and fans.”

Wednesday’s game vs. Faith Prep will be sponsored by R.G. Mongler Real Estate, Bob and Treva Mongler. The Greyhounds will resume play November 3 and 4th in the Orscheln Industries Classic vs. Planet Academy and Arkansas Baptist College.

“As a coach, you want to get through September and to the start of practice in October,” said Coach Patrick Smith. “Now it’s making progress thru October and getting to the games in November. However, this is an extremely important month with so many new players. We’ve had some injuries, players who are attempting to rehab and get back, unfortunately it’s part of the process. However, our players have worked so hard this month with great attitudes and we’re looking forward to representing MACC and our Greyhound fans. We look forward to the Columbia College scrimmage as we can learn so much from it. They are so good, disciplined and Coach Burchard is truly one of the best in this game at any level.”

Although admission to the game is free of charge, donations to the Program will be accepted either in the form of Gatorade Sports Drinks or cash.
