Two one possession losses drop Hounds to 4-2

The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team dropped two one possession games to Jayhawk Conference foes at the State Fair Classic this past weekend. On Friday, the Greyhounds fell to Independence CC 87-86. Afer falling behind 41-36 and trailing 13 in the second half, Moberly came back to gain a three point lead with two minutes remaining. After a three point play gave Independence the lead late, Moberly was unable to get a shot off late down one point. Alonzo Verge lead Moberly in scoring with 26 points, Sean Miller-Moore had 24 points and Markelo Sullivan added 20. Independence was lead by Edwards with 28 points and Durham added 18 points.

Against Allen Co. , Moberly was unable to fight all the way back and lost 106-103. After a 43 all tie at the half, the second half was back and forth with Allen Co. gaining control late. They were lead by Carroll with 25 points and Love scored 24 points. MACC was lead by Alonzo Verge, Jr. with 46 points while Sean Miller-Moore added 17 points. Allen Co. improved to 7-1 with the win while Moberly dropped to 4-2.

“Tough weekend from the outcome standpoint,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “However, when both games come down to one possession, most certainly a lot of teaching points. One thing for sure, we have to get better defensively when you give up the amount of points we did. When both teams shoot over 44 free throws, we have to eliminate the bad fouls and just giving away points. Our ball movement must improve as we were too stagnant at times. I’ve said all along we must continue progressing and we must now focus on individual and team improvements.”

Moberly returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Penn Valley CC for a 7 pm tip off.
