A pair of sophomore women’s basketball players surpassed the 500 point mark during their careers at Moberly Area Community College last week.

Anisha George, a 6-1 post from the Virgin Islands, accomplished the feat during MACC’s 94-79 victory at St. Louis Community College last Tuesday evening. George currently leads the Lady Greyhounds in scoring and rebounding as she averages 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. She has registered six double-doubles this season, while scoring more than 20 points on four occasions.

“Anisha may be our most improved returner from a season ago,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “She is doing a better job of putting herself in a position to score and can really change the game with her ability to rebound.”

Carnethia Brown, a 5-6 point guard from Louisville, Kentucky, scored her 500th career point against Three Rivers College as MACC opened NJCAA Region 16 play with an 81-49 victory on Friday night. Brown led the Lady Greyhounds in scoring and assists last season and is currently third in scoring as she averages 10.5 points per game. She is also first in assists this season with 4.3 per game.

“Carnethia is very good about knowing when she needs to score and when she needs to distribute the ball,” said Killinger. “That is something that she has got better at as she as learned the point guard position and something that has been essential to our success over the past two seasons.”

In addition to their success on the basketball court both George and Brown have enjoyed a great deal of success in the classroom as both have been named to the Dean’s List on two different occasions during the time at MACC.

“As impressive as it is to see what these two young ladies have accomplished on the basketball court, it is equally impressive to know that they understand the importance of their academics,” said Killinger. “We really try to stress the student aspect of being a student-athlete in our program and these two are great examples of that.”
