women pairMoberly Area Community College head women’s basketball coach Chad Killinger recently announced the signing of Alexis and Lunden Henry from Springfield Southeast High School in Springfield, Illinois.

“Lex and Lunden are tremendous all-around athletes,” said Killinger. “They were three sport athletes through their sophomore year of high school, but focused on basketball and track the past two years. I really like having kids who were multi-sport athletes in our program, especially track athletes, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they continue to grow on the basketball court once we get an opportunity to begin working with them.”

Alexis, a 6-0 guard, averaged 15.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block per game this past season. She was named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-State, while also earning CS-8 All-Conference and being selected to the Southeast Thanksgiving All-Tournament team.

“Lex will give us size on the perimeter and someone who can knock down the three,” said Killinger. “She is long, which will help with some of the things we do defensively, and her ability to rebound and trigger our fast break without having to outlet the ball should allow us to play a little faster than we did at times last season.”

Lunden, a 6-1 forward, averaged 12.3 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block per game as a senior. She was also named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-State team and CS-8 All-Conference.

“Lunden is an athletic forward, who can run the floor and change shots on the defensive end,” said Killinger. “She will need to add some strength to be effective down on the block, but she can also step out and knock down perimeter shots which will open the floor up for us on the offensive end.”

The twins played for veteran coach Sandra Griffes-Devoe, who has experience both playing and coaching at the collegiate level, during their career at Southeast and come from a family with a strong basketball background. Their father, Winston, originally attended Alcorn State on a basketball scholarship, while mother, Kerry, lettered three years at the University of Illinois. Jalen, their older brother, will be a junior member of the basketball program at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
