Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball has announced the signing of three newcomers to their roster for the 2019-20 school year. Joining the Greyhounds will be 6’10”, 220 lb. sophomore post Dusan Mahorcic from Skokie, Illinois; 6’3” sophomore wing Cade Combs from Harrisburg, Mo; and 6’3”, 180 lb. freshman guard Tyrek Chambers from Brooklyn, New York. Mahorcic will be joining the MACC program as a transfer from Lewis University where he battled an injured foot during his freshman season this past year. In high school he played for Notre Dame HS in Niles, Illinois. During his senior season he averaged 17.5 points per game, 13.3 rebounds per contest and 5.5 blocks per game. Mahorcic was rated MM+ on scouting services after his senior season and posted a high game of 34 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in a post season victory.

Combs was a standout basketball player and all-around athlete at Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Missouri. During his senior season he averaged 22 points per game, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal per game in jhis squad to a 22-7 record. Combs was a two time All State performer in basketball, a 4 sport athlete and All State in three different sports. He scored 1650 career points and scored 48 points with 8-8 from three point range in the District Championship game his senior season. Combs will be transferring from Columbia College and following in the footsteps of his father, Steve, who was an MACC Greyhound in the 1990’s and followed with a very successful stint at Harrisburg HS.

Chambers played his senior season at Piney Woods High School in Mississippi where he had an outstanding season in averaging 27 points and 5 assists per game. He was named District MVP and !st Team All State(Top 5). He was recruited by numerous Division I progams and named on two Top 200 National Player Lists. He played his junior season in Arizona where he was also named All State.

“Recruiting is obviously very important throughout the entire recruiting season,” said Coach Pat Smith, “However, I think it becomes really important late as you try to finalize your squad adding quality players who specifically fit needs you have. I feel like we have accomplished this with our later signings. Mahorcic is a very skilled big man, good rim protector and after being hurt much of last season, has a great edge to have a very productive and team season. We know he can score in the post but also can step out and shoot, pass and drive. Combs is a very versatile players we recruited the year before and glad to add for this current season. He had an unbelievable high school career and truly feel his best college basketball lies ahead of him. Chambers has a chance, in my opinion, to help us form another tremendous backcourt with his all-around skill set. He can just flat score the ball and truly can play both guard spots with both playmaking and shooting skills.”

Smith said he anticipated signing one more player in the remaining month before the school year starts. MACC Men’s Basketball finished 28-7 last season with championships in Region 16 regular season(8-0), MCCAC Conference(10-0), Highland Invitational Tournament, Region 16 Tournament, District IV Title and NJCAA National Tournament Sweet 16.
